The aim of this article is to study the construction of narrative space and its influence on character development in *El otro barrio*, Elvira Lindo's first novel for adults. Using a narratological approach, and drawing on the concepts of Zoran (1984) and Valles Calatrava (2008), the article will explore the locations the author recreates in the novel, the construction of space through narrative discourse, and the tensions between alienation and uprootedness experienced by the main characters.
