Abstract

On the occasion of the centenary of the death of Menéndez Pelayo, the following article takes a look at the life and work of this author. It deals with aspects such as the historian’s influence, his friendships and literary enmities or his ideology. As for his work, there are works written in his youth such as La Ciencia española or Historia de los Heterodoxos españoles and others belonging to his period of intellectual maturity. Finally, it is recalled that Menéndez Pelayo sought to vindicate Spanish culture, as well as European, Catholicism and Latin America.
