This article exposes the type of bond that the writer Carmen Martín Gaite and the poet José Ángel Valente maintained through their letters and dedications. To complete the vision offered, a list of common points in their lives and works is previously drawn, as well as those other literary elements in which they differed. Special attention is paid to the presentation of the 1988 Prince of Asturias Award, which was awarded to the two ex aequo.
