Abstract

The aim of the article is to point out the link between Menéndez Pelayo and popular narrative poetry. His disciple, Menéndez Pidal, makes a favorable critique of "El Romancero de Menéndez Pelayo". In addition, after the death of his teacher, Menéndez Pidal will decide to compile the lectures that are made about Menéndez Pelayo. This is an objective and lucid analysis of Don Marcellin’s work and his intellectual trajectory. It is considered a study carried out with exceptional rigor by one of the Spaniards who knew and most appreciated Menéndez Pelayo.
