Abstract

The haiku of Den Sute-jo, a prominent haijin of the Edo period, is deeply influenced by Buddhism and Shintoism, reflecting a spiritual vision of nature understood as a manifestation of the sacred. Nature, religion and sacredness are the three great pillars that support the work of this haijin. Sute-jo's landscapes are imbued with a reverence for nature that dates back to Kojiki times.
