Abstract

The article presents a tribute to Benito Varela Jácome, who died in Santiago de Compostela on 22 October 2010. He was a scholar of Emilia Pardo Bazán and editor of Spanish writers that the programs of Hispanic Literature demanded to address, but above all a great connoisseur of European and American literature that demonstrated his work Renewal of the novel in the twentieth century. Don Benito’s work showed how effectively he applied himself to the detailed analysis of narrative techniques or procedures, of the perspectives adopted by the narrator, of the spatial and social levels represented.
