Abstract

This article explains the development of the satirical genre in which Don Quixote is framed, which parodies the books of chivalry, taking into account the literary and historical context in which it is found. To do this, he uses comments from the prologue that Miguel de Cervantes himself wrote at the beginning of his magnum opus, since, even in that brief, dialogued presentation, the irony and mockery on which the novel is based is reflected. Cervantes affirms that he wants to emulate the books of chivalry to take away their authority and social prestige, since they only serve as vain entertainment and should not be a model for anyone in real life. The writer carries it out not only in the prologue but in the two parts of Quixote, through comments and thoughts of various characters, including the narrator Cide Hamete.
