The presence of Spanish American literature in the Boletín de la Biblioteca de Menéndez Pelayo has not been abundant during the first hundred years of the lifespan of that publication. The review of all the articles published on this subject allows us to sketch the way such presence developed. Initially, it was influenced by the magisterium of Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo and his contributions to the study of such literature, which derived from a Hispanic-friendly perspective especially eager to highlight the production that remained closer to the Hispanic cultural tradition. This process was later perceived as impoverishing, either by disinterest or distance. However, this drift has been corrected in recent decades with the inclusion of a greater number of studies about a variety of authors and subjects.
