The discontinuous trace of 27 in the Boletín de la Biblioteca de Menéndez Pelayo

Abstract

In its 100 years of existence, the Boletín de la Biblioteca de Menéndez Pelayo has become a repository of the historiography and literary criticism of Spanish literature. Its characteristics do not favour the registering of contemporary literature, and in particular that of the Generation of ‘27, which established itself culturally in the same period as the Boletín, between 1927 and 1936. Its pages include some of the landmarks that made the writers of the ‘27 chanonic. Among them, a prominent milestone is Dámaso Alonso’s article (1931-1932) about Góngora’s influence on this generation of authors. Much later, came the critical examinations of the «Poetas del 27», who received little attention during the Franco dictatorship, with the understandable exception of Gerardo Diego.
