Three unpublished letters from Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo to Carolina Michäelis de Vasconcelos

Abstract

The document presents three letters that Menéndez Pelayo sent to Carolina Michäelis, who was a Luso-German philologist and the first PhD professor at the Portuguese University, on the occasion of various literary consultations. Neither of them had any personal intimacy. Because of this, his letters lack family references and denote a lack of knowledge of the life of the other interlocutor.
