Abstract

This article deals with the history of the printing and editions of Don Quixote in Latin America, which did not begin until 1833. However, the article offers data that in the same year of publication of Don Quixote, 1605, they already traveled to South America. several copies. Even so, soon the proliferation of the chivalric and mere entertainment genre was prohibited in the overseas colonies, so that the expansion of the Spanish classic was hindered. Some of the reasons why more copies were not printed after the spread of the printing press are that the sector was dominated by religious people, who chose which works to publish and publish and which not, in addition to the fact that in some countries the supplies necessary for the printing press to be a continuing business.
