This obituary pays homage to Brian Dendle, who was internationally known for his insightful, enlightening and solid critical work, and much of his books are now sources of reference. He was one of the most outstanding critics of 19th century literature of his time for his critical acumen, his sensitivity and his early interest in the historical aspect of the Galdosian work. He died at his home in Lexington at the age of 77.
