Various scholars, historians and biographers have published research on the intervention of Francisco de Quevedo in the dispute over the appointment of Saint Teresa as co-patron of Spain in the 17th century. The poet wrote a memorial and a work, both on the figure of Santiago de Compostela, and in this article they are related to the context of the time and the reception by the high public of these two writings, since they aroused controversy. For this reason, the Memorial of Tamayo de Vargas is also mentioned and other documents are included, such as letters from Felipe IV, the Archbishop of Santiago, the Bishop of Córdoba and Fray Pedro de la Madre de Dios, involved in this matter, without whose words would not be understood in Quevedian publications.
