Abstract

This note studies the only olograph manuscript of an Emilia Pardo Bazán’s novel, which is kept in New York, at the Hispanic Society of America. Although La sirena negra has been considered a literary work written in an almost decadentist mode, that Pardo Bazán carried out in few months, the study of its originals reveals a much more complex manuscript, whose textual history opens new interpretations not only connected with its fin de siècle aesthetics.
