Abstract

Pedro Calderón de la Barca and William Shakespeare adapt the traditional story of the false adultery in El Médico de su honra and Othello, respectively. Both playwrights portray adultery as the failure of an individual to play her social role appropriately. However, Calderón and Shakespeare differ in the way they choose to end the conflict. The two plays show profound theatrical and ideological differences.
