David Roas contributed to the inclusion of horror and fantasy novel in Spain in the 18th and 19th centuries, providing clear definitions of these genres. His book De la maravilla al horror. Los inicios de lo fantástico en la cultura española (1750-1860) affects the mentality of the time and the different manifestations of these genres in Spain, such as the wonderful story, the comedy of magic, popular shows... In his second part relates fantasy to horror and the pleasurable feeling that it recreates in literature and that readers of that time were already looking for and enjoying. Roas also extrapolates these aspects to put them in relation to the present and, later on, connects the narrative or novel with poetry and theatre, where terror and fantasy are also developed.
