Images to view and read: A book on 19th century Spanish illustrated literature

Abstract

The document presents a detailed study of a book on 19th century Spanish illustrated literature. To do this, it draws on the research and work of various authors on illustrated literature. The first two parts of this 19th century History of Spanish Literature mainly offer individualized studies of editions, texts and authors from the period from the Romantic period to the end of the century. The last section of the book consists of nine studies about different phenomena and editorial modalities. Another axis of analysis has to do with the gradual incorporation of images into editorial genres such as «illustrated libraries» and serials. The importance of the image in books is revealed although graphic artists were considered to be of a lower rank than writers.
