The literary motif of the old man who is in love is found throughout the history of literature. It is integrated in some of the greatest novels of the 19 th century from an approach which highlights its breakup with the way in which it was dealt with in the previous tradition. The goal of the present study is to address its integration in the works of one of the greatest writers of the 19 century, Benito Pérez Galdós, by analyzing one the the characters among the many who appear in the second series of his National Episodes.
