Abstract

This article focuses on the figure of the Deaf of Provedaño, character of Peñas above, and his concern for nature and the environment. The concept of eco-critique cures from the sixties of the twentieth century; however, this character shows a great interest to preserve nature. He is defined as a guardian who opposes with all his strength the «merchants of the land» who favor the interests and mobility of exogenous companies to the detriment of local initiatives and ordinances. El Sordo aims to maintain a balance (social and ecological) and its ecophilia is based on respect for nature.
