Abstract

Don Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo is a very important figure for the culture of Spain, not only because of the legacy of his enormous bibliographic collection, but also because of his work as a critic, writer and historian. This text mentions the close relationships that he had with various writers of his century, such as Emilia Pardo Bazán, Benito Pérez Galdós and José María de Pereda, with whom he corresponded and talked about his novels. Above all, it focuses on Don Marcelino and his opinions on the novels of the last third of the 19th century.
