The obituary pays tribute to Gonzalo Sobejano, one of the most outstanding personalities of international Hispanism, Professor of Spanish Literature at Columbia University, scholar of Hispanic literature and one of the most respected critics of contemporary novel. He was also the author of a long and extensive work of literary research, in which he addressed studies on the Spanish narrative of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and periods such as the Golden Century. He collaborated with magazines such as Revista Hispánica Moderna. He won prizes such as the Laurel of Murcia, the National Prize of Literature Emilia Pardo Bazán, or the Cross of Commendatore of the Order of Isabella the Catholic. Gonzalo Sobejano was a great researcher and critic of Spanish literature. His constant dedication to philological and critical work and his academic and university proximity.
