This obituary pays homage to Iris M. Zavala. This researcher and poet had a long humanistic career and was knowledgeable in Spanish literature: from Cervantes to Hispanic modernism and 98. He cultivated a wide range of philological expressions: literary scholarship and cultural research in the broadest sense and literary creation in its fundamental genres. Iris M. Zavala was awarded three times (1964, 1972 and 1990) the national literature prize in Puerto Rico for her works on Unamuno, on Rubén Darío and on ideology in the 19th century Spanish novel. In addition, she decided to approach the study of Spanish literature from feminist theory in the 1980s.
