Abstract

Throughout her life, Emilia Pardo Bazán received many expressions of admiration and respect, and numerous successes marked her literary career, but she was also the victim of a large number of public and private attacks. The study collects the unfair criticism that she received through the pages of the newspapers of the time and also the opinions that were reflected in the private letters that her colleagues (Menéndez Pelayo, Valera, Clarín, Pereda …)  exchanged with each other. Doña Emilia has left us samples, both in her works and in her private letters, of the pain and disappointment that such displays of hostility caused her.
