Abstract

The document presents an approach to Azorín’s opinion about theatre and cinema. The main objective is to highlight the most relevant features that Azorín highlights about cinema and its evolution in two phases: the 1920s and between 1950 and 1960. The author became interested in cinema around the 1920s, as reflected in his article «Cinema and theatre». Specifically, he is attracted to American cinema and Surrealism, considering cinema the art of lights and shadows. Likewise, Azorín shows the decline of the theater against the cinema, due to the limitation that before the plurality of images of the cinematograph has imposed itself. It is concluded that cinema extends throughout the cultural sphere, where the exploration of subconsciousness takes on enormous relevance.
