Abstract

This necrology is written to remember Martín de Riquer Morera, a Cervantist teacher, specialized in all Romance literatures. He stated that classical works written in Romance languages, especially those of the Middle and Modern Ages, could not be studied or understood separately. He wrote essays on Don Quixote, on the Catalan classics, on the relationship between the Middle Ages and Humanism, on the relationship between authors who wrote in Romance languages, without forgetting Catalan poetry and Romanesque epics. He was a member of the Spanish Royal Academy and director of the Academia de las Buenas Letras of Barcelona, as well as a correspondent in other similar institutions in other Spanish communities and in other countries.
