Abstract

Cesare Segre was a specialist in Romance languages, an ancient Romanist, who mastered ancient French and ancient and modern Italian. He was not only a great philologist, but also an interested in literature, making him a well-known Italian figure in the field of humanistic research. In addition to studying the literature and language of his country, Italy, he opened up to Hispanism, delving into the Spanish Golden Age, the Middle Ages and the 20th century, without forgetting its relations with other Romance languages such as French. This text mentions his most outstanding writings, which deal with all these issues, and culminates with an anthology of his essays the same year of his death, 2014. His way of writing is considered lucid, clear and versatile, always accessible to any reader.Cesare Segre was a specialist in Romance languages, an ancient Romanist, who mastered ancient French and ancient and modern Italian.
