Abstract

Robert Cecil Spires was an American Hispanist focused on the Spanish novel. His contributions continue to be studied by other researchers due to his importance. He studied about Galdós, but most of his works were devoted to Mexican narrative. He used the critical trends in fashion in his country and thus established a relationship between them and Spanish scholars. He published books related to the novel in the Spanish postwar period and was very interested in the process of artistic creation within such a special context. In general, he researched and wrote about the Spanish novel in different settings and times, including the 1990s. He was a renowned university professor as well as a researcher.
