Abstract

Don Quixote, in its beginnings, became mostly popular due to the interspersed stories that Cervantes included between the main plot, starring secondary characters. Ana L. Baquero Escudero analyzes the way in which Cervantes undertakes this task of superimposing texts, both in Don Quixote and in La Galatea and Persiles, as well as the repercussion of this novelty in later literature. To do this, she analyzes the structures of some classic texts and finds similarities and theoretical notions in them. In the specific case of Don Quixote, interspersed stories allow the author to explore different literary genres and even mix them at will. The author emphasizes the importance of this technique and its originality.
