Abstract

Julio Neira masterfully portrays the figure of José Manuel Caballero, reviewing his biography and his work. The biographee had already published memoirs, but Neira is of the opinion that an external person is necessary to give perspective and greater objectivity to the story of the departure of another. Already in the introduction it is made clear that Caballero's life and his work are intimately interconnected. Each chapter reviews a stage in his life and his relationship at each moment with poetry and literature in general. He mentions his most relevant friendships, when they are other well-known writers, and explains how he went from journalism and articles to poetry, which gave him more freedom. In each collection of poems he exposes its characteristics and relationships between works and life of the author. At the end, a name index is included. In conclusion, it is a very complete book, which does not leave any detail out and is presented as essential and reliable to get to know José Manuel Caballero Bonald better, with verified information and documents.
