Abstract

This review focuses on Salvador García Castañeda's edition of the Peredian novel Pachín González. The editor is a specialist in the Cantabrian writer and has already edited and commented on many other of his works. This edition is special in that the researcher has worked with the original version and other editions, thus being able to show Pereda's process of correction and creativity. Through these details, Polanco's writer is better known and the entire text is very well presented and contextualized thanks to the historical introduction by García Castañeda. The preliminary study also talks about Pereda's biography, the explosion of Cape Machichaco, about which news from the time is provided. In addition, the editor carefully analyzes the objectives of the protagonist of the novel and deals with the themes of travel, immigration, dreams and the search for new opportunities abroad. To finish, three texts by different recognized authors who commented on this Peredian novel at the time are included.
