Abstract

Two works by Ana María Freire, whose publication dates are similar, are reviewed here. Her first work is the second edition of her own doctoral thesis, Índice bibliográfico de la Colección del Fraile. Freire gives importance to a little-known character, Fray Salvador Joaquín de Sevilla, a Capuchin who wrote extensive works that are still preserved in various official institutions. The collection is based on documents from his brother, a task that she must not have found very arduous due to his experience as a librarian and his curiosity, patience and industriousness. In the collection there are various literary genres that Freire is responsible for analyzing and relating to the different topics they deal with, always connected to some relevant issue or person of the time. On the other hand, her second publication deals with the Enlightenment and Romanticism, as well as the aftermath of the war against the French, commented on Spanish literature of the 19th century.
