Abstract

In Paul Neruda's chronologies there is described the trip that the poet did to Easter Island in January, 1971 as his first contact with the Island. The present article bases how in 1945 the poet travelled to the Island accompanying the painter Maruja Mallo and that this presence explains four poems of Canto general Singing (Mexico, Ocean 1950) dedicated to the island.
