Abstract

The book reviewed is a monograph on the poetics of Pablo Neruda, written by specialist Selena Millares. In it, he emphasizes all the poets that Neruda had as references, from Rubén Darío to Quevedo and Whitman. Neruda, in his maturity, reflected more deeply on poetry, torn between originality and tradition, and began to explicitly mention his poetic influences. Millares focuses on Romanticism and Baroque as the main sources of inspiration for the Chilean poet. She also reels off his fascination with the modernists. The monograph attempts to review Neruda's life, the contexts in which he lived and his literary influences, which led him to be one of the most outstanding poets in the Spanish language.
