Cervantes beyond Cervantes: The transnational Don Quixote

The Cervantean progeny is not restricted to the works by Cervantes beyond Don Quixote, but also includes this latter’s descendants beyond Cervantes and beyond our frontiers. Our approach to them, however, demands a change of paradigm so as to make it transnational and not merely international. This implies shifting focus from Don Quixote as the source text and its rewrites as target texts to these latter as mediating texts for later rewrites. This paper provides a survey of a research project turning around this concept of transnationality and of five little known -even unknown- novels in four different languages illustrating it.
